Minimally Invasive
Heart Surgery
Patients who have single vessel coronary disease or only require surgery for one of their heart valves may be candidates for minimally invasive surgery – where the surgery is performed without splitting the breastbone and fully opening the chest. For patients, the benefits are enormous: they experience less surgical trauma, decreased blood loss, reduced risk of infection, reduced pain immediately post surgery, a better cosmetic result and importantly, a faster recovery period.
Coronary Bypass – MIDCAB
Patients who have a blockage in only one coronary artery (the LAD) may be a candidate for Minimally Invasive Direct Coronary Artery Bypass (MIDCAB).
Mitral Valve Repair/ Replacement
Minimally invasive mitral valve repair or replacement (Mini-Mitral) can be performed if there is no indication for other valve or coronary bypass surgery at the same time.
Aortic Valve Replacement
Patients who require an aortic valve replacement and don’t require any other valve or coronary bypass surgery may be suitable for minimally invasive aortic valve replacement – Mini AVR.
